Scanning Montgomery County
- All fire, rescue, and EMS tones are broadcast on Fire Rescue 1. This channel is not for operations after dispatch.
- The functionality of radio channels is location-specific. Certain channels work better in certain parts of the coounty.
- Tones can also be heard on certain operations channels, such as BRS 1.
- Other channels, such as South 3, are used only for operations and will not broadcast tones.
- Virtually all routine operations are UHF, analog, and conventional.
- Montgomery County state troopers use Salem 1 (now encrypted) on STARS - rarely will they communicate on the county system.
- The county is in the early stages of planning a P25 Phase II 700/800MHz simulcast system.
